About my experience My passion for fine art, travel, culture and my 25 year experience as a successful award winning editorial, advertising and fine art photographer have given me the opportunity to develop a high level of expertise that covers a variety of areas in photography. My work includes travel photography, car photography, still life photography, portraits, reportage, landscape photography and people photography. My work is produced in all formats; 35mmm, Hasselblad medium format and 4x5 as well as 8x10. I also shoot with digital cameras, ranging from point and shoot such as the little Panasonic Lumix with a Leica lens to Hasselblad's latest technology. My darkroom techniques range from antique processes such as cyanotypes including hand retouching on negatives to various simple and complex toning techniques on FB paper. I was lucky enough to learn with the best printers in the trade while I lived and worked in Europe. I have been printing on fine art papers for over 20 years, first with hand coated emulsions, and now with the high end Canon and Epson printers. I have been working with Adobe Photoshop for over 12 years and prior to that, I use to retouch with the best operators in London and Paris on Quantel's Paintbox. I have shot campaigns with throw away cameras, camera-phones and published others from Polaroid transfers. I have also shot car campaigns with portrait lenses from the 1940's and exhibited portraits shot on 8x10 Tri-X film(my favorite B&W film) photographed with the same lens I had special ordered from Rodenstock in Germany. My lighting experience ranges from strobe lights to tungsten, and HMI lighting without forgetting what ever is available to get the shot I want. You can see more samples of my work here. If you wonder about my skills as an educator, I have trained many assistants over the years to become successful photographers. After completing my Masters in science, I have taught and tutored for many years. Its about passion, fun, vision and imagination, its the magic of the little black box, its what photography is all about.
How I can help you with your photography 1. Improving your technical skills, from shooting (including lighting, composition aesthetics and style), retouching, digital darkroom to printing what suits your style best, using more imagination than dollars. 2. Seeing, seeing the light and shadows that will look as you want them to on print, developing your own style, signature and creativity. Its about originality and simplicity, the key and secret to any art form. 3. Portfolio presentation and selection of images. 4. Stock photography, how to be amongst the best. 5. Travel photography, budget, locations, gear, developing a personal, spontaneous and unique perception, vision and style. 6. Portrait, lighting, angle, background, setting and mostly the eyes, how to capture that expression that makes the difference between a portrait and a great portrait. 7. Landscape photography, space light, composition, elegance and emotion. 8. Car photography, originality, sensuality, atmosphere and romance. 9. Still Life photography, composition, lighting, and how to give a soul to an object through your perception and emotion. 10. Advertising photography, all of the above and much more such as client relations and marketing. 11. Marketing your photography. Unlike many other advisors in the trade, I never had a magic wand and a crystal ball in my studio. I simply learned with experience that what looks great and is well presented, shows imagination, elegance, atmosphere and wrapped in a personal style will sale. I can help you put it together and show you the way to art buyers and art directors, but if you expect me to take you by the hand, or even miracles, you will be very disapointed. Its about hard work, perseverance, passion and ambition. All images and text © 2008 Daniel Malka |
